Dennis “Denny” Dahl, 72

April 06, 2026

Dennis “Denny” Dahl, born May 30, 1953, to Alf and Elsie (Brown) Dahl at the Baudette hospital, passed away on April 1st 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, hard work, and unmistakable character. Notably, Denny was the only one of his siblings born in a hospital, the youngest of seven children.

After high school in 1972, Denny set off on an unforgettable journey to California in his beloved 1932 Chevy Coupe alongside close friends Ernie Lund and Bob Rivard. With only a 10-gallon gas tank and space for a few extra cans, the trip required frequent stops, but it became one of the many adventures that defined his early years. Settling in San Jose, California, he worked in house construction, where Denny met Rose Michon. The two were married on March 15, 1975, in Reno, Nevada, and returned to Minnesota later that same month.

In 1975, Denny purchased his first truck, a white Freightliner, and began driving for his brothers at Dahl Trucking. On June 5, 1976, Denny welcomed his first son, Denver Eugene. Denny continued his trucking career until 1985, when he briefly stepped away to work in road construction before returning to the road in his truck.

In 1987, Denny met Kimberly Barnes, and they were married on July 8, 1989. Together they welcomed his second son, Dillon Andrew, on January 4, 1990. That same year, Denny began working for his brother Ivan at Dahl Wood Stoves, while continuing to drive truck hauling loads for many throughout the area. In 1997, he stepped away from trucking full-time and began working at Marvin’s, where he remained for 14 years.

In 2011, Denny moved to North Dakota, where he worked at Bobcat until retiring in 2014. Over the years, he held a variety of jobs, including operating equipment alongside his good friend Glen Grund, helping build the BOSCH test track mound and the lagoon at LOW School.

In 2015, Denny returned to the homestead he had made his home since 1989. There, he spent his days tinkering on projects and proudly displaying countless photos of his family. In his later years, he could often be seen cruising around town in his memorable outfit of his cowboy jacket and sweatpants or sitting on the bench at Holiday, gently teasing passersby with his familiar sense of humor.

Denny had a passion for four-wheeling, camping, hot rodding, and playing ball during beer league. He will be remembered for his independence, his work ethic, and the way he lived life on his own terms.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Alf and Elsie Dahl; his brothers Julius, Elwood, Gordon, Olaf, and Ivan Dahl; and his sister Leila (Dahl) Kothrade. He is survived by his two sons, Denver and Dillon (Carla) Dahl, and his two grandchildren, Evanna and Darren Dahl.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 25th at 4:00 PM at the American Legion in Baudette, Minnesota. Denny’s remains will be laid to rest at Wildwood Cemetery on a later date.
