Jane Ann Feigum, 77

January 14, 2026

May 27, 1948 – December 31, 2025

Jane Ann Feigum passed away peacefully at home under HIA hospice care on December 31, 2025, at the age of 77, surrounded by her loving husband and three sons, following a courageous two-year battle with endometrial cancer.

Jane was born in Fargo, North Dakota, to Carl Emil Curtis and Helen Jane Brown Curtis while her father was attending pharmacy school and a member of the Army ROTC at NDAC (now NDSU). She grew up in Baudette, Minnesota, the oldest of five children.

From an early age, Jane’s life was filled with music. She sang in choir, played clarinet in the school band, took piano lessons throughout her school years, and even served as a cheerleader on skates for the high school hockey team. A gifted musician, she accompanied soloists at contests and performed her own clarinet solos. After graduating in 1966, Jane enrolled at NDSU, planning to follow in the footsteps of her grandfather and father as a third-generation pharmacist.

While attending NDSU, Jane joined the Gold Star Marching Band and was selected for the Concert Band. During freshman orientation, she met a “geeky young man” from Napoleon, North Dakota, named Jerome (Jerry) Feigum— who would become her husband five years later. They played in band together, formed many mutual friendships, performed in four musicals, and traveled on several spring band tours throughout North Dakota and the Midwest. They realized their friendship had grown into love on the Ides of March, March 15, 1969.

In the summer of 1968, Jane was selected to participate in the Experiment in International Living, spending six weeks in Poland and Russia. She also served as Commander of the Air Force ROTC Arnold Air Society Auxiliary. After three years at NDSU, Jane changed her major and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Science Education on June 1, 1971. Jerry graduated that same year with a degree in Music Education. They were married on August 7, 1971, in Baudette, Minnesota.

Following their honeymoon in Winnipeg, the couple settled in Jasper, Minnesota, after Jerry accepted a position as high school band director. When no science teaching positions were available, Jane worked for the Jasper Journal newspaper until she was offered a science teaching position in January 1973. She taught all junior and senior high science classes until June 1975.

Jane’s careful saving of her teaching salary made possible a five-week dream trip to Europe in the summer of 1975. With little planned itinerary, Jane and Jerry explored the continent by car and reunited with Jane’s sister Cathy and her husband Chris, who were stationed in Germany with the U.S. Air Force. They cherished their four years in Jasper, forming lifelong friendships with colleagues and students.

In 1975, Jerry accepted the one-year position as band director at Fargo North High School, and Jane returned to NDSU to resume her pharmacy studies. The following year, Jerry became band director in Barnesville, Minnesota, where they would build their life together. Jane graduated from NDSU with a pharmacy degree in 1978. Their three sons—Joshua Curtis (1978), Jesse John (1981), and Jacob Charles (1985)—were born during their years in Barnesville. Jane and Jerry faithfully attended their sons’ many musical performances and sporting events, and in 1994 built the home that remains the family’s home base today.

Professionally, Jane worked as a pharmacist at Wahl Drug in Hawley and Ulen while also teaching piano lessons to many local students. After moving to Barnesville, she was asked to serve as organist at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, a role she filled for many years for worship services, weddings, and funerals. She was deeply involved in church life—singing in the choir for 48 years alongside Jerry, participating in a women’s circle, mentoring confirmation students, and forming lifelong friendships grounded in faith.

Jane and Jerry were longtime members of the NDSU Alumni Band and later joined the Lake Agassiz Wind Symphony following Jerry’s retirement in 2006, continuing to make music together until November 2023. They were also devoted NDSU Bison football fans and season ticket holders for 15 years, traveling to multiple national championship games in Texas and enjoying many trips across the country visiting friends and family.

Jane officially retired from pharmacy in 2016. Her greatest joy in retirement was her family—especially her nine grandchildren. Known lovingly as “Grandma Jane,” she delighted in hosting holidays, sleepovers, birthday celebrations, and any gathering that brought her family together. She was famous for getting “a little carried away” buying thoughtful gifts for her grandchildren and had nearly perfect attendance at her grandchildren’s concerts, recitals, school programs, and sporting events.

Jane is survived by her husband of over 54 years, Jerry Feigum; her sons Joshua (Andrea) Feigum and their sons, Aiden, Gage, and Jaxon of Moorhead, Minnesota; Jesse (Carrie) Feigum and their sons, Jonah, Seth, Henry, and Benjamin of Fargo, North Dakota; and Jacob (Heather) Feigum and their daughters, Evelyn and Clara of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. She is also survived by her siblings, Cathy (Chris) Dunshee, John (Ann) Curtis, Beckie (Gus) Campbell, and Christy (Dean) Armstrong; her sister-in-law, Nancy (Lloyd) Rowe; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Helen Curtis; and her parents-in-law, John and Erna Feigum.
