Stella Margaret (Smith) Friesner
5/03/1939 to 11/07/2025.
Stella "Margaret" left this world looking towards the arms of Jesus, at Heather House Hospice, in Fargo, ND early Friday morning. She was surrounded by family.
Margaret Smith was born to Carl Madison and Sevilla Catherine Smith on May 3, 1939 in Malvern, Arkansas. Margaret had four sisters, Carolyn, Carla, Barbara and Rachel Louise. After graduating High School, Margaret moved out to California to look for work. She lived with her Aunt Edith’s family, who lived next door to the Friesner’s and that is where she met the love of her life, Neil. They were married on May 09, 1959 in California. Margaret and Neil were blessed with two daughters, Vicky and Jenelle, who were their pride and joy.
Margaret and Neil loved new adventures which led them to live in a variety of places throughout the United States. Including Oregon, Southern California, Arkansas, Illinois and North Dakota. However, Northern Minnesota was home. During their time in Minnesota, Margaret and Neil both worked for Marvin Windows and Doors in Warroad. They purchased a country property that was located north of Roosevelt but Margaret was not satisfied with the country lifestyle. They later sold that property to move into the town of Williams.
Margaret left a lasting impression on many people with her loving heart. She had the gift of story telling and sharing memories which will continue to be shared by all who loved her. She enjoyed many conversations on the phone and would often send an encouraging text. Her family knew they were always in her prayers as she often told them, “I’m praying for you” and “I love you.”
Margaret loved watching football. The Arkansas Razorbacks, "Woo Pig Sooie!" and the Chicago Bears were her favorite teams. At the same time, she was a loyal fan of the Lake of The Woods Bear Football team, no game was too far away or too cold for her to be found cheering on for her Grandsons with her “little old lady voice”. She would often talk with her grandchildren about what was happening during Sunday football, always keeping up on the latest scores. Margaret always looked forward to updates with the Family and their new adventures from mountain tops, shopping in new places, hunting trips or her precious great grandchildrens’ milestones. She was simply the largest fan of her Family.
Margaret is survived by her youngest sister Rachel Louise (Rodger) Storey, her daughters, Vicky (Donald) Poole of Grand Forks, ND and Jenelle Cusey of Moorhead, MN. Grandchildren, Arturo (Christi) Flores of Streetor, IL, Jesse Ryan (Chasity) Newton of Warroad, MN, Sarah (Jeremy) Lee of Williston, ND, Joseph (Heather) Schultz of Bismarck, AR, Juan (Lexie) Flores of Baudette, MN, Kalynn (Andrew) Gallagher of Thief River Falls, MN, Nicholas (Sarah) Flores of Sheridan, WY, Taylor (Rachel) Poole of Fargo, ND, Christopher (Ashley) Flores of Baudette, MN, and Megan (Marcus) Thompson of Moorhead, MN. Great Grandchildren: Kyiah Gallagher, Stella, Mateo, and Leo Flores, Addyson and Micah Flores, Poppy Flores, Aiden and Brooklyn Schultz, and soon to arrive Parker Poole. Along with numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret also leaves behind a special cousin and friend Jane Collie of Vilonia, AR.
A healthy Lake of the Woods County requires great community news.
