Daniel R. Smith, 70

Daniel R. Smith was born on May 12, 1953, to Richard A. Smith and Charlotte E. Headley in East Liverpool, Ohio.

Dan passed away on September 20th, 2023 in Kirkland, Washington at the Evergreen Medical Center at the age of 70, the eldest of six children. His parents and siblings moved out west to Washington, where they had employment.

Dan graduated in 1971 from Kent-Meridian High School. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force. His first stint was at the Air Force Base in Grand Forks, North Dakota, for two years. This is where he met and married Carla Sorrels from Williams, Minnesota.

Following his time in Grand Forks, they made a trip back home to Washington to visit his parents before he was sent overseas to the Torrejon AFB in Madrid, Spain.

Little Daniel Jr. and Carla stayed behind until he was settled and they could join him. Dan was stationed in Madrid for five years before they returned to Renton, Washington, in 1978, when he retired from the service. In 1981, their daughter Tricia was born.

Dan enjoyed fishing, hunting, movies, bowling, and, most of all, muscle cars. Dan loved working on cars and restoring them.

Dan is survived by his son Daniel Jr. and Amy Smith, daughters Lily and Maya, his daughter Tricia and James Robert; brother David and Linda Smith and family; sisters Kristy and Willy Amans and family; Joan and Terrence Finn and family; Debra and Kirk Barber and family, aunts and uncles, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Charlotte, brother Larry Smith, and nephew, Jason LaFrance.

A Graveside Service will be held for Dan on November 10, 2023, at the Tahoma National Cemetery with military honors.
