Coreena Marie Jones (Dahl), 62

October 02, 2023

Coreena Marie Jones (Dahl) passed away on September 15, 2023, in Venice, Florida at the age of 62 years, 4 months and 7 days.

Coreena was born May 8, 1961, in Baudette, MN, to Ivan and Charlotte (Hanson) Dahl. There she attended Lake of the Woods School and graduated in 1979. Her high school career consisted of volleyball, basketball, and choir classes, in which she excelled at all three. Upon graduation, she moved out to Eugene, Oregon, and stayed with her grandparents, Obert and Lucille Hanson for one year. Upon moving back home, Coreena had decided to enter the service. So, on November 18, 1980, she went into the Army and was stationed at Fort Jackson in South Carolina.

In 1984, she married James Jones and was soon to join motherhood with the arrival of her first daughter Danielle, on January 9, 1985. Later that same year, Coreena and Jim were transferred to Germany, where as a family with their daughter, they moved and lived for three years. In October 1986, Coreena received an honorable discharge from the Army. While enjoying her time in the service, she made the hard decision to leave for the sake of her daughter’s health. During this time of living in Europe, she traveled to multiple places, looking for answers about the condition of Danielle’s heart.

When serving her country, she received many accommodations for her excellence in service, her willingness to tackle any job, her accuracy and precision in doing the job correctly, and of course, her pleasant disposition. When they returned to the United States, Jim was stationed at Fort Riley in Kansas. Finally, returning once again to Columbia, South Carolina. Being out of the Army and working for an insurance company, they welcomed the birth of their second daughter, Kasey, on January 10, 1992.

Jim and Coreena fell on some hard times and decided to part ways. Coreena continued to work and raise her two daughters and a few years later met and married the love of her life, William (Bill) Jones, on November 14, 1997. By the year 2000, Bill’s business was thriving, and his family was doing well. Then, in 2006, Coreena got the pleasure of adding another title to her name when her oldest daughter Danielle, gave birth to a little baby boy, and she became a grandmother. Four more times she got to add that name as Danielle, along with her first grandson, Asher, added a lovely little girl, whom she named Evangeline (Eva). Her second daughter, Kasey blessed her with three more grandchildren. A fine young man named Kameron, and two beautiful daughters named Kasmira (Kazi) and Joanna (JoJo).

Coreena was a hard worker who always had a concern for others, spending an endless number of hours cooking and helping the less fortunate or the financially strapped friends and neighbors. She always had the attitude that, no matter what the job, she could do it, so when her body started to tell her no, you cannot, she went on a quest to find out what was going on. It was then that she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. This did not slow her down as on the days that she could work, she would expel an enormous amount of energy cooking and delivering meals to many people.

Coreena loved to dance. The music from the 70’s was her favorite and you could always find her on the dance floor with her grandchildren. She also loved to cook, sometimes taking recipes and putting her own spin on them which most of the time, they turned out pretty tasty. She also loved to draw, to paint, and to create beautiful works of art out of seashells. Her favorite thing to paint was always a sunset. She found the peace and the beauty in the colors that the sun would share on both oceans, streams, and forests.

By 2012, Bill had retired from his siding business and they had decided to move to Venice, Florida. The constant and even temperature would be much better for Coreena’s health. There, they began a business installing SunSetter awnings.

In April 2023, Coreena suffered her greatest loss when her husband of 25 years, Bill, passed away at home. Through her grief and her tears, she pressed on in life until five months later, her ravaged body and her broken heart gave up its last heartbeat and Coreena went to sleep to wait for the coming of the Lord. Her ability to always see the best in people and circumstances, along with her contagious laughter will be missed by many including her children, grandchildren, brothers and sister, and of course her parents.

Along with many other friends and family. Coreena is survived by her children, Andrew and Danielle (Jones) Lewis and Kasey Jones. Her grandchildren Asher, and Evangeline Lewis and Kameron, Kazmira, and Joanna Jones. Her parents, Ivan and Charlotte Dahl. Her siblings Anthony Dahl, Mark and Marva (Dahl) Bowen, Mark and DeVonna (Dahl) Hanson, and Nicholas Dahl. Along with many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 14, from 4-6 p.m. at the VFW banquet room in Baudette.
