Williams City Council Greenlights Fundraising Raffle, Training Workshop, and Infrastructure Fixes
The recent city council meeting began with Mayor C. Lundsten calling the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. The attendees recited the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the roll call. Chad Lundsten, Leslie Huerd, and Josh Tuorila were present, while Gary Van De Hey was absent.
During the meeting, there were no questions or concerns raised. The minutes of the previous meetings on June 12th and June 15th were approved unanimously after motions made by Council Member L. Huerd and seconded by Council Member J. Tuorila.
In new business, Bruce Gillie sought approval from the council for the annual rifle raffle to benefit the Williams Fire Department. Council Member J. Tuorila made a motion to approve the raffle, and Council Member L. Huerd seconded the motion. The proposal was unanimously approved.
Clerk Nicholson requested permission from the council to attend a workshop in Glyndon, MN, covering topics such as budgeting, tax levies, and cyber security. Council Member L. Huerd made a motion to send Leslie Nicholson to the training, which was seconded by Council Member J. Tuorila. The motion passed unanimously.
Another matter discussed was Joseph Houle's application for a building permit to construct a garage in place of his previous one at 120 Spina Street. After deliberation, Council Member L. Huerd made a motion to approve the building permit, and Council Member J. Tuorila seconded the motion. The permit was granted unanimously.
In old business, Clerk Nicholson informed the council about a deteriorating sewer issue on Pine Street near the cemetery. Ritter and Ritter provided an estimate of $7,100.00 to fix the problem. Following a discussion, Council Member L. Huerd moved to proceed with the repairs, which was seconded by Council Member J. Tuorila. The motion was approved unanimously.
The council also addressed the need to replace the sewer pump on the East side. Tri-State Pump & Control offered an estimate of $2,280.00 for the replacement and requested that the old pump be sent for rebuilding. After deliberation, Council Member L. Huerd made a motion to proceed with the repairs, which Council Member J. Tuorila seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
No committee reports were presented, and the council approved the paid claims as moved by Council Member L. Huerd and seconded by Council Member J. Tuorila.
Finally, Council Member L. Huerd made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:36 p.m., which was seconded by Council Member J. Tuorila. The motion passed unanimously, concluding the proceedings.
