Louis Norquist, 97

Louis Emanuel Norquist, age 97 of New Hope, MN, formerly Baudette, MN, passed away June 7, 2023.

He was born on April 30, 1926, to Albin and Swea (Wicklander) Norquist in Roosevelt, Minnesota. He spent his childhood in Roosevelt and enlisted at the young age of 17 to serve in the United States Navy. He proudly served from 1943 in the Pacific Theater until his honorable discharge in 1946.

On August 3, 1947, he was joined in marriage to MaryRuth Norton in Roosevelt, MN. The two were high school sweethearts. Their family moved several times around the State for his job. He worked in Fergus Falls and Duluth, then returned to Roosevelt. He began working for the DNR in Park Rapids, and then the family moved to Baudette. Louis worked as a mechanic for the DNR until his retirement in April of 1988.

Louis enjoyed hunting, fishing on Lake of the Woods, coaching youth hockey, playing cribbage, and working on his carpentry projects. He was a member of the American Legion in Baudette.

He is preceded in death by his wife, MaryRuth; parents; an infant sister; and brothers, Lester and Richard.

Louis is survived by his daughters, Kathie Adam and Debra (Preston) Jones; grandchildren, Chris Lewis, Alison Lewis, and Timothy Adam; great-grandchildren, Avery McCawley, Chase Adam, and Kevin Gutierrez; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Discover Church (1400 81st Ave N, Brooklyn Park, MN), with visitation one hour prior. Inurnment will take place at Fort Snelling on July 24th at 11:30
