Trees for Conservation Planting available

January 31, 2023

A recent survey revealed that Minnesota Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD) provide landowners with more than a million trees and shrubs every year. The Lake of the Woods SWCD contributes to this effort by sponsoring a tree sales program of its own. These trees are used for conservation plantings such as windbreaks, shelterbelts, living snow fences, erosion control, wildlife habitat enhancement, and for water quality protection projects.

The Lake of the Woods SWCD currently has 18 different species of low-cost trees and shrubs available for this spring. The spring 2023 tree order form includes a wide variety of trees and shrubs suited to this region. In addition to providing trees, we can provide technical and cost share assistance for larger or functional tree plantings and we also have incentive programs available to protect tree seedlings. The sale continues until all stock is sold out.

We can also assist with tree selection, and guide you towards programs and technical assistance to help manage your woodlands.

Tree order forms are available at the Lake of the Woods SWCD office, located in the Post Office Building, or by calling the SWCD office @ 634-1842 ext. 4.
